Illustrator Project
What I Did

  • I used the pen tool to draw the outline of the right half of a wine bottle.
  • I also drew the outline of the right half of a wine glass and duplicated it.

  • I then used the pen tool to draw the right half of the wine in the bottle and each glass. The line had to have a left edge exactly even with the bottle/glasses left edge and the right edge had to be within the right edge of the bottle/glass.

  • I then changed the stroke color and opacity of the items to:
    • Wine bottle: Green with 25% opacity
    • Wine glasses: Light grey with 15% opacity
    • Wine: Deep red with 60% opacity

  • I then grouped each item's outline and it's corresponding wine outline into groups.
  • This was necessary to ensure that in the next step the items are rendered as one with the wine inside the bottle/glass rather than as seperate items layerd over each other.

  • I then used the effect>>3D>>Revolve feature to turn each of the three groups into a 3D object.

  • I then used the 3D revolve effects surface options to add two sources of light to the items:
    • One from behind the items
    • One from the front right overhead
  • I chose these two sources since the items will be used in the final project with a sun light source from behind and a ceiling light from above.

  • I then created the wine label for on the bottle.
    • I used the rectangle tool to create a square with a beige fill and three smaller rectangles with strokes for the three boxes.
    • I used the pen tool and 3D revolve effect to create all the grapes at different tones of blue.
    • I used the pen tool to create the path that the vineyard name follows and a standard text box for the wine name.
    • I chose the vineyard and wine because I wanted a red wine and this was listed in the top 10 wines on foodandwine.com
    • I applied the texturizer effect to the label to give it a heavy paper feel.
  • I also created the tin foil for the top of the bottle.
    • I used the rectangle tool to create a rectangle with a red fill of the same color as the wine.
    • I then applied the smudge stick artistic effect to give it a crinkled tin foil effect.
  • I then turned each of the items into symbols so that they can be mapped to the bottle.

  • I then used the 3D revolve tool's mapping tool to map the wine label and tin foil symbols onto the bottle.
